I do love cooking anyway, not so good at it though...
So today, let me introduce about my discovery about
"The Difference Between How I cooked in Australia and Japan"
from my tiny cooking experience. Are you ready to join it ;D"The Difference Between How I cooked in Australia and Japan"
*YUNA and COOKING*
I've been in Australia for a while when I was 18. I guess my cooking history has started at that time! since then, I started photographing my dishes. I found amusing difference between how I cooked in Australia and Japan!!
Even though the menu was same, its color, dish, and any other visual effects were so different! So now I want you to introduce them by using those pictures. (on the left side, I paste which I cooked in Australia, and the right side will be Japan for each menu)

Let's atart my cooking journey with tomato spaghetti. Actually, it was the very wirst meal that I cooked in AUS. Sooooo memorable!!!!!! For your information, I cooked Japanese one after a year passed. Then I'd like you to focus on each "Ingredients"it's quite different isn't it? In AUS version, I only put green pepper and bacon in it... very simple. Howabout Japanese one? I put shrimp, squid, tomato, clams....soooo gorgeous!!!you see how my skill has improved don't you ;)? Oh thanks a lot. What I really want to say is that even if you used same flavored sauce, you could make various kinds of dishes!!!!
*meat-stuffed cabbage*
Looks same? OK, I'll lead to the answer..."Role of the menu"was the key of this dish. When I cooked meat-stuffed cabbage so far, I didn't need any other side dish with it because it role as main dish AND SOUP as well!! On the other hand, when I cooked it in Japan, I put MISO SOUP with. I guess the reason why I did that was because I deal with meat-stuffued cabbage as JAPANESE FOOD. So I didn't recognize beef consomme soup, which I boiled for cooking it, as SOUP!! I was surprised at the difference of my way of treating this menu.
*curry and rice*
WOW!! It's hard to see for my curry in AUS:0 Ican't believe that I maked them. It's clear that the "Quantity" of two have a huge gap!! When I was in Aus, I had few money and sho;d have manage it. so I always tried to cook as much meals as I could with minimum money. Now you know why I made such a crzy quantity of curry and rice at one time. the curry was placed in a freezer and I ate them over time. I had "Curry Week" many times.

*hamburger*
I sometimes cook it to my nephew because my hamburger is his favorite:) Whenever I cooked to them, I pay attention to the "Color" of the dish. I didn't care the shape or color of the sauteed vegetable if I eat by myself. however I do care if there are my lovely nephews!!! I do not want him to have dislike vegetavle, that's why I'm always trying to make it colprful as much as I can.
It's time to end up my DISCOVERY.
Overall, I found that the most significant difference is WHO YOU COOK FOR.....
I cooked just for my self before, so my Australian dish were so simple naturally. I valued"Quantity" than "Quality" but, I now feel much plesure while I'm cooking.
BECAUSE....
Irealized cooking for someone meke me happier! Mom, sister, nephews, friends...If I have someone to cook for and eat together, we can share our time. What a Lovely thing!!!!
Why don't you try cooling for your dearest? It'll make you warm;)
Hope you have a sweet eating moment with someone special :)
and Let me hear about YOUR story...xoxo
Hi Yuna~~
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed your blog today. All the pictures posted made me hungry...
I think you actually are good at cooking though you think you are not. Well, whether being good at it or not does not matter. As long as you enjoy cooking and enjoy eating what you cook, it's great!
I can tell that you made some more arrangements in your dishes when you cook in Japan compared to in Aus.
Curry is so helpful when we do not have much money, isn't it? We can eat it with rice, udon noodle, chinese noodle, pasta and many others. So curry is our HERO! Curry Week... what a wonderful week! Although some say it's hard to keep eating it for a few days, I can enjoy it for about a week, I think.
As you said, cooking for someIone is way different from just cooking for ourself. When there are someone who eat what I cook, I pay more attention to nutritional balance, the tase and the appearance. And if someone say "it tastes good" or "I like it", I can feel sooooooo happy and these phrases make me want to cook for them again and again. I think you definitely understand what I say because you cook for your nephews.
I am looking forward to eating your dished soon!

As you said, I actually love cooking especially when I make for my NEPHEWS;) You know how deep I love them!
Yeah! Curry is very useful for people who live alone. I sometimes spread curry on the bread with cheese cake and bake it in an oven. It's soooo tasty, so I can recommend you to try it.
It's quite difficult that cooking well balanced meals everyday, so I purely respect you! I know you always cook for your brother and sister in order to keep them healthy. I wonder if I were your sister and could eat your delisious dishes everyday... What a Lovely life;)
I hope I'll cook for you soon,
Yuna
Hi Nozomi!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment.
I feel so happy to hear that you enjoed my blog.
were you used to stay in AUS too??
Wow!! we must talk together about it;)
I think it doesn't matter whether you cooked there or not. I guess you know that Australian dish are quite simple compare with Japanese one, isn't it?
You'll notice some difference when you cook for someone else! I guess that if you cook someone, you would feel much better than alone.
I'm looking forward to talking abut it and our Australian life soon:)
Yuna - Great post! I'm the same way. When I cook for myself I'm more worried about money and time than how it looks. But when I cook for my family or friends, I usually spend a lot of time and money on the food becuase I want it to be perfect! I want my family and friends to enjoy my food not just eat it.
